  1.   Kayla Says:

Bill Moyers purpose of his speech was to tell us that everyone should be treated as an equal. The theme was that not all are treated equal though. I feel that his most effective story waa the one about the older lady, Carol Reyes who was homeless and had dementia. His word choice was complex but it got his point across very well. I had trouble understanding his choice of words at times, but his points were very well made. He called everyone to action.

  2.   Evan White Says:

Bill Moyer’s speech was about how everyone should be treated equal and how we shouldn’t be so quick to leave some one out. While I listened to his speech I realized that through his word choosing and every effective points Bill had been researching this problem for a long time which made the speech even more influencing to me. I’m not good at picking out themes in stories and speeches but this one was a lot easier, it was about how people should all be treated equal and people shouldn’t be so quick to leave others out. I think that we all should think twice before doing something that could leave some one else out.

  3.   Courtney Ward Says:

Bill Moyer was trying to say that everyone should be treated fairly and nobody should be left our. He also mentioned how everyone is not treated fairly and there could never be a perfect would in which everyone was. I think Bill got the point across very well and I could clearly get what he was saying.

  4.   Shannon Richards Says:

How i would take control of my life is by truly understanding myself and how i am or how i behave in certain environments. Then i would try and place myself in environments that i believe would be good for me and avoid those that are not. I would also try hard in school and study a lot to take control of where i want my life to head after high school.

    1. I have some leadership skills like i try to inspire others and persuade them to contribute. I also have passion for certain things and respect.

    2. I will need to take skills like courage with me because i tend to be shy at first. Also organization and respect.

    3. You can tell because you would be able to see a change in yourself, for example, when an opportunity presents itself you take it rather then saying well that is a good chance but maybe next time because you were to afraid.

    4. I can use my talents to create new opportunities by teaching others my talents. That will help me make my own talents better while helping others create those talents.

    5. Effective leaders share passion and have the abilities to persuade others with out controlling them. Also the belief that they can positively shape their lives and careers by being leaders.

    6. You can lead through leadership rather than control by letting them have a say in decisions and also try to collaborate. If you earn their respect, they will listen to you and more likely be willing to do the things you say.

    7. You can live a life that inspires others by living a positive life and being a role model. You can by helping lead the people around you.

  5.   Gage Burroughs Says:

I feel i could take more control of my life. I feel as if i could be more organized and contribute more to the betterment of others. I would also try and take myself out of any environments i didn’t feel completely comfortable in.
Some leadership skills i have developed are the ability to get people to do what i ask without fear just out of trust and commitment.
I think the number one leadership quality i need to take from high school is organization.
I know i am developing the academic skills that i need in my future because it is directly related to my grade in a class.
I can use my skills that i learned to make a good first impression at a job or when meeting new people.
Effective leaders share the belief that they can positively shape their own life and help others in shaping theirs.
Leading with relationships is more effective than leading with control because leading through relationships would mean that there is a sense of trust and confidence in the work place.
I think the life i live is good inspiration to others because i go to school, i try my hardest, and i am involved in after school activities. I feel like i am a good role model to others.

  6.   Kalyn Shigley Says:

I need to seize new opportunities in my life. There are plenty of things I have the opportunity to do, but haven’t done yet. I still need to apply to colleges and universities, and I still need to take my driver’s education test to get my driver’s license. There are also smaller opportunities that I can “seize” every day. These opportunities include the opportunity to learn from each of my classes at school and from my homework, and from my mistakes and successes outside of school.
One of the leadership skills I have developed is that I try to include everyone in each project and value everyone’s opinion. I also try to incorporate everyone’s ideas because we can achieve more together than we can achieve separately. I try to organize group projects so that everyone knows what they need to do.
I will need to take all of these qualities and more with me when I leave high school. I will need to be able to work well with people and communicate effectively. I will need to be able to explain things thoroughly without sounding condescending. I will also need to learn how to follow people in order to lead.
Grades exist to help us know how well we are learning the academic skills we need. It is okay to get bad grades as long as those grades always continue to improve. This is how I know I am learning to do something better.
I need to do everything I can to create new opportunities for me and other people. I can do this by focusing on my talents and using them to improve situations. This idea makes me think of Spiderman; “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Effective leaders share many qualities. One of the most important is the ability to inspire. This is one of the qualities which allowed President Obama to win the election- he could inspire people with his words. Jesus of Nazareth was also inspirational through his words and deeds, so much so that many millions of people follow his teachings, even after his crucifixion over 2000 years ago. Effective leaders also need to follow their own advice if they hope anyone else will want to follow it.
The most important thing about being a leader is treating everyone else as people too. We all have valuable ideas, and, as the old saying goes, “Two heads are better than one.” I can lead through relationships by talking to people and incorporating their ideas into each project. (When I say project, I don’t just mean school related projects, but everything that involves any kind of work/energy.)
In order to live an inspirational life, I need to do my best in everything, treat everyone with respect, and follow my own advice.

  7.   Courtney Ward Says:

I would infleunce others to be their best by doing my best to set a good example. I would not pass up any good oportunity there was and do everything to my highest potential.

    1. Leadership skills I have devolped are I have a respect for people, I try my hardest to be a good infleunce, and I Like to hear peoples input on things.

    2. Leadership skills I will have to take with me are, I should be able to voice my opinion, work well with people, and be respectful.

    3. I know when I am devolping good leadership skills when I see a change in my lifestyle,I see that I am in a good situation, In which I normally would have been uncomfortable in. Basically you have to put yourself out there

    4. I can use my talents in certain situations like at a job or just helping somebody out with something.

    5. effective leaders are good at problem solving, they do not leave people out, and they are very respectful.

    6. you can lead through leadership by considering what everyone has to say, and by coming up with something together and creating more ideas.

7.You can live a life that inspires by doing what you believe is right no matter what happens.

  8.   Jordan Boulier Says:

Some things i would do to take better and more efficiant control of my life would be to act more responsibly. In the past, it seems that I rely on talking myself out of things i would rather not do, and sometimes do things that are only convienient for me. This behavior is selfish and isn’t something i value in myself. I would take control of my life and responsibilities by trying harder… not only in school, but by becoming a better friend and a helpful sister. Taking control of our lives is basically getting our priorities straight. i feel guilty when i ask my parents for money because i am at the age where i should be earning it for myself. i don’t have the satisfaction of working hard for the things i want and feel guilty about not even looking for a job, so that is another way i can turn around and take control.
    1. leadership skills i have are that i am determined i can make a difference in people’s lives, and that i try to be encouraging and inspiring when doing so. i think showing respect is extremely important because it shows people dedication and in turn you recieve respect back.
    2. skills i’ll need to take with me from high school are willingness to learn, and to not be scared to meet new people and try new things. most importantly i’ll have to stay true to myself and not walk around with a cocky attitude like people who call themselves leaders.
    3. you’ll know because you can feel yourself learning and taking in everything our lives have to offer us at the time being, and opportunities and memories that we create effect us forever.
    4. though i’m shy at first, i am good at breaking tensions with comic relief, so people don’t feel awkward, and i’m awesome at doing flips on trampolines, which is a fun way for people to open up and express.
    5. effective leaders always stay positive, and show signs of calmness in all situations. they don’t force/control people to do things, but rather persuade them if it is the right thing to do, and gain respect without trying too hard or relizing that people admire them.
    6. first off i really don’t have a desire to control anyone, and the best relationships with friends, coworkers, etc are based solely off the determination to know them and respect the people they have become. if you take the time to know their story and actually listen to what they are saying then the right kind of relationship is built.
    7. living a life that inspires is living a life to the fullest, in a completely positive way, and not really complaining about the bumps in the road but helping all you can and stsying true to yourself.

  9.   Michael Gauthier Says:

Some leadership qualities i have developed is that i whenever im around my friends or other people i like to keep things chill and mellow everybody should be happy all the time.
One of the leadership qualities i want to take with me from high school is maturity if your not mature in the real world chances are you will get fired from your job.
I know im developng the acedemic skills i need for when i am going to trade school.
I can use my talents to make money throught my life and make sure i get all the creature comforts.
Effective leadears always tend to be charismatic that way the people around them will be alright with them taking command.
By being a positive influence on everybody around me.
By making sure you lead through a good example.

  10.   Greg Gizowski Says:

    >>>1<<<<
the way i influence others is by pushing them to be the best. like in running cross country for our amazing school, because i believe that if you push a person farther then they are normal to being pushed they will become better people and build more character.

1.the leader ship skills that i have developed over the years is that if you are nice to people they will be nice back to you.

    2. the way that i have inspired people and the way a group of friends should act.

    3. i am studding more and i am pushing my self harder to better in school.

4.i could run faster and make collage want me to join there team so that i will be able to go to a good school.

    5. they are able to mesmerize thousands of people with big words and statistics. and able to act quickly and be a positive influence

    6. i would win by computerizing the situation

    7. everyone is inspired by people that inspire them. i think that is the only reason people live

  11.   Suzie Hicks Says:

The one i chose was the last one which was how would i accomplish to make the world a better place. For starters i would make organizations or clubs to get people together so they could get to know eachother better and become more familiar with other people in the world. I wouldn’t vote for wars or any violence. I would teach schools to teach more about solving problems with out fighting or violence. I would help pass a law to only allow police officers and military people to have guns and weapons because i think that weapons are a big cause to why the world isnt anywhere close to perfect. I would also help pass some kind of law for prisons that make it hard for any kind of murderer or rapist or any kind of “bad” guy to get out of prison.

“You dont need a title to be a leader” questions:

-Leadership skills that i have developed are teaching people things when their starting off and taking the lead if someone doesn’t know what their doing. A lot of my leadership skills are from work and school. I also take the lead in class sometimes by anwsering questions or being the first to do something.
-When i leave high school some qualities that i learned from here that i need to take with me are, influencing others like in class when were doing a project and your influencing people on their ideas also taking the lead when something isnt right like if someone was cheating off someones paper someone has to step up and set a right example and tell the teacher.
-You know if your developing the right academic skill for your future if you study hard and work hard to succeed and get good grades because hard work and studying will take you far in your academic career.
-Everyone has some sort or talent and people can use them to help themselves and others by either donating their time to raise money for less fortunate or set up some kind of fundraiser with their talent to raise money. For example my talent is baking i can bake good cookies and if i had a bake sale i could raise money to give to maybe cancer kids or patients.
-Effective leaders are positive and they help others and influence them to do the right thing, they collaborate with others instead of taking control of them, and they also persuade others to contribute rather then order them too.
-You can lead through relationships rather than controlling them by letting the other person have a chance at the decision making and working together with things.
-By being a role model for others like children and inspiring people to do great things with their lives.

  12.   Taylor Kirby Says:

I guess I would choose to take better control of my life. I am often told that I ‘don’t think before I speak/act’ ‘lack responsibility’ or some other things along the lines of that and I suppose I would like to change those statements and in order to do so I am guessing I would have to learn to gain control over my life even though life isn’t totally something we can control.

1.) A leadership skill I have learned is that with the right words and attitude, people can be coerced into getting along and doing/completing the task at hand.
2.) Leadership skills I will take with me from high school are the ability to commit and the ability to take charge when necessary.
3.) I know that I am developing my skills when I can visibly notice a change in the way I handle situations in life.
4.) I can use my talents to get me farther ahead in life.
5.) Effective leaders manage to stay cool, calm, and collected no matter what. They can coerce others in an effective, non-manipulative way and can easily gain the respect of others.
6.) I already lead through relationships with people.
7.) By living life in a way that is desirable to others. Or something along the lines of that.

4.I can use my talents to create new opportunities, for my self and others would be by helping, teaching, motivating, and working hard.

  16.   Brandon Cain Says:

the way i am a leader is during football I always help out the new kids. This year I am coaching junior football so I am influencing the younger kids to be their best and try their hardest on the field. I have developed the qualities of a leader by influencing others and also I contribute to the betterment of others. After high school I will need to take all the qualities with me because I want to join the air force. I will know I am doinng well because my grades will be good and I will be helping others. I can use my talents for myself because with them people will be looking up to you for help and insperation. Effective leaders share the abilities to make others do better then they are. They make people feel better and more confident then they are. I can just help people out and ask them instead of tell them. I live a life to inspire others because on the football field when I make a great play it inspires others to work hard also

  17.   Evan White Says:

1.Throughout high school I’ve learned alot about responsiblility which is an important trait of a leader.
2.I will need to take responsiblility with me when I leave high school.
3.I’m not really sure if I am developing the academic skills I’ll need in my life I don’t think anybody really knows, all I can do is try my best and work hard.

  20.   Brianna Price Says:

I personally need to take better control of my life. I would do this by being more independant and responsible for myself. i depend way too much on others to tell me what i need to do. i need to figure out what makes me happy and go for it and not listen to what others think i should do and what they think makes me happy.

One way i would influence other people in my life is to e the best person i could possibly be and to carry out the good things i tell other people they should do.
1.) The leadership skills i have developed are social, influential, and responsibility.
2.)Skills that i will meed to take with me from high school are courage, responsibility, and most definately organization.
3.) I know that i am developing acedemic skills that i will need later in life by challenging myself in school and sports and succeeding at those things. if i don’t push myself to be the best i can be than im not developing the skills i will need to carry on [ast high school.
4.) i am very good at softball and i can use those skills to help myself to improve and i can help others with these skills by going to camps for children and teaching them those skills.
5.)Qualities that good leaders share are dedcation, hard work, most most of all they have to have the passion to do what they are doing.
6.) I can lead through relationships instead of control them because i am close friends with others. and if i get serious about a relationship with them i feel that we would be comfortable and more accepting to what each other have to say. i also think we would be open minded to each others opinions instead of saying this is what i want done so do it. We would both have our own opinions and would do which ever was in the best interest for both of us.
7.) I can live a life that inspires others by living my life over the top. if i can be the best person i can be and have fun doing that then i believe many people can be inspired from that.

  22.   LIz Rylander Says:

So far, I haven’t really been much of a leader myself, actually I tend to be moreof a follower. But it’s important for everyone to develop some, if not all, qualities a leader should possess. A leader doesn’t mean you should be cocky and take control over everything. A good leader should stay positive, and never shoot down other people’s ideas, but be open to them and try and find a way for everyones ideas to be utilized (unless they’re really messed up) A leader should also be a real, believable person. Leaders are meant to be citizens other’s look up to, and you want to seek guidance from a real person. A good leader should be able to admit they mess up and be open to corrections of their faults.
Throughout my school years I;ve learned that in order to be a leader you’e gotta be optimistic, friendly and a very mellow, open person. IN schoool most of us learn to act in a mature way adn hopefully to think how our actions could affect other people, so it’s important to take that quality on to other parts of your life, so you can assure that once it;s your turn to take the lead, you do it with everyone else on your mind.

  23.   Shane Denomme Says:

One thing that I need to improve on to become a better leader is seizing new opportunities. I can be a pretty out going guy, but sometimes I feel unconfortable reaching out to better myself. I realize that if I were more open to people it could greatly affect my status as a leader, but it is sometimes hard to reach out of your social bubble and seize the day. Some leadership qualities that I should take from highschool would be, non conformity and being genuinly nice. A nice leader is almost always a good leader.

  24.   David Anderson Says:

to take controle of my life I would all the advantages I have to benifite me and my future. I would need to plan out to avoid future problems and stick to the plan. I would need to ask question of how to do beter and where my true petential can be spent well.

    1) I have developed problem solving skills
2)I will have to take problem solving and organization from high school
    3) I know that I am developing the academic skills I need because I am acomplishing task with little to no help
    4) I can use my abilies to in comunity service and after school activities.
    5) to lead using relationships you have to ask not demand of others and you use positive renforcment not threats
6)to inspire others you have to stand for whats right when no one else will and you have to stand for what you believe in

    3. I have developed academic skills by taking more advanced classes and staying focused. Also, by staying organized when it comes to my school work.
    4. I can use my talents for getting where I want in life, and making sure that I always no what is going on.
    5. Leaders need to be highly recongized. They have to be there to get the job done and to get it done right.
    6. I can lead through my relationships because my friends and I are very close and we all step up every once in a while and do the right thing.

  27.   Jacob Bradley Says:

    ABSENT
The leadership quality that i could use, is make my organization better because, i tend to be unorganized in school.
